Hi, I’m Christy!
I’m in my 10th year tutoring high school seniors to complete their “You’re Accepted!” Common Application essays, activities lists, resumes, and supplemental essays. I’m known as the “secret weapon” behind the families of nearly 200 students who have been accepted to colleges across the US and Canada. I’m also a mom to 6 kids of my own and have hosted 13 French high school students. I have a huge heart for young people!
My essay students have been accepted at Villanova, Northwestern, the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, Clemson, Purdue, the University of Alabama, the University of Illinois - Chicago, and many, many others… Plus, many of my students received generous financial awards as well.
Working alongside each teen, I have the opportunity to coax out their deepest story, to help them express their unique genius, as they complete their strong Personal Statement, supplemental essays, and scholarship applications.
I’ve always been a strong writer…
But college essays are completely different. And writing one well is counter-intuitive. Plus, I have yet to see a student-written Activity List that makes effective use of the 150 characters available. (This is why I schedule TWO one-on-one sessions with each student just to complete this part of their application!)
In my first year working with high school seniors, I was just “okay” at helping them write the kind of essays that get noticed. And I knew it.
So I doubled down on the process, on best practices, and on meeting the critical needs of my students in answering prompts that are written for someone with a 25-year-old mind (not the mind of a 17 or 18-year-old student).
I looked at what all the best essays and activities lists have in common…
And I simplified everything so that I could teach it equally well to my students who are at the top of their class, somewhere in the middle, and to those with learning differences.
