So why is the essay so darn hard to write?
In a recent workshop, as we prepared to write the first draft, a student asked me if she was allowed to use “I” in her opening paragraph.
After years of writing arguments, research papers, and hearing “keep yourself out of it,” teens are now suddenly asked to write the most personal 650 words of their life—with no training or guidance.
It’s not their fault they feel completely lost and overwhelmed. This kind of writing goes against everything school has trained them to do.

Yay, I love that you're eager to get started! Your teen can hit the ground running by watching the "Discover Your Best Topic" mini-workshop video, which I'll send via email before the weekend. They’ll have the flexibility to pick a 60-90 minute window to complete it, giving them plenty of time and space to think through their topic ideas before we dive in on Saturday morning.
If your teen already has some essay ideas or even a rough draft, they can submit it via our private group channels as early as the Wednesday before the workshop officially kicks off. This gives me a head start in understanding their unique perspective so we can dive straight in when we meet on Saturday.
And if your teen can’t watch the video before Saturday, no worries! The Story Spark session on Saturday morning includes my 3 most powerful activities to deeply brainstorm and help every student discover their best topic, so they’ll have plenty of time to refine their idea before we start writing.

To fully complete their essay during the workshop, your teen will want to set aside their whole weekend to focus deeply on crafting their personal story. We’ll begin on Zoom (or in person) at 10 am ET / 9 am CT on both Saturday and Sunday. Have them ready with a laptop and notebook with pen, and I’ll take care of the rest!
Built-in breaks throughout the day will give them time for meals, some physical activity, or just a mental breather.
Our focused, yet lively, pace includes hands-on exercises to crystallize their best essay topic, experiment with 3 variations of a strong essay start, and acquire advanced writing and editing skills to craft the best essay they’ve ever written—just when it matters most.
During the weekend, they’ll also receive the Essay Polishing Power-Checklist, a step-by-step guide to perfecting their essay. There will be ample Q&A time during the live sessions, ensuring they’re supported every step of the way.

Before your teen can effectively use AI (if at all), they need to understand what makes a standout essay. A great college essay has a unique point of view and a strong, individual voice—it sounds like it was written by the teen themselves. As advanced as AI is, it’s not designed to capture the individuality and unique voice that colleges are looking for in an essay.
The problem with AI is that it pulls from the "average" of what it finds on the internet, which leads to common, vanilla (no mint chocolate chip here), and predictable (i.e., boring) essays—definitely not what will set your teen apart.
Plus, colleges use AI (developed by a Princeton student) to detect essays written by AI, and those essays are usually the first to get a "no thank you" rejection letter.
While AI is great for some things (and I’ll show your teen exactly how to use it in the workshop!), writing a unique and engaging college essay isn’t one of them. That’s where Complete Your Essay in a Weekend comes in—I’ll help your teen find and share their deepest story, and I’ll even teach them some AI shortcuts that can help them safely along the way. We’ll use AI to enhance creativity, not replace it.

Fantastic! Having an essay already written gives us a solid starting point. Your teen can submit their existing draft to me starting the Wednesday before the workshop.
If it’s a strong draft, we’ll uncover the “magic” hidden within it, polish it up, and turn it into a new and improved version—one they’ll be excited to submit and never want to go back to.
That said, in my experience, no junior-year essay fully captures a teen’s story in the compelling, engaging way it needs to. While they may feel their essay is “good enough,” once they see how much more they can say with my guidance, they won’t look back. My goal is to help them create an essay that doesn’t just meet expectations, but stands out to Admissions Counselors and sets them apart.
An “A” paper in English isn’t typically the kind of writing that earns acceptance letters or scholarships. While your teen may seem deaf to many of your suggestions, I know your reflections can play a pivotal role in helping them uncover and express what makes them truly stand out.
Once you enroll your teen in the Complete Your Essay in a Weekend workshop, I’ll provide quick, fun, and strategic exercises for you to complete together. Because these exercises come from Easier College Essays (and not directly from you), your teen is more likely to engage with you to complete them.

Once you sign up, your teen gets a link to join our private Slack group. This is our communication hub. They can message me directly with questions, schedule conflicts, or anything else that comes up. I get back to them within 24 to 48 hours, often much quicker.
The week after the workshop, your teen books their 90-minute Essay Finish Line Session with me. Just the two of us, taking their draft from close to done. If they still want another pass afterward, they keep sending drafts in Slack and I keep working with them until the essay is ready to copy and paste into the Common App.
Then it's celebration time. 🥳 Their deepest story is finished, and ready to submit.

It’s completely normal for most teens to feel a little nervous at first—they don’t know anyone yet, they don’t know me, and it all might feel new. But by the time we hit lunch on Saturday, they’re usually feeling much more at ease, laughing during our group work, and appreciating the focused writing sessions that help them make real progress on their essay.
Have them stay with us through the weekend, meet with me one-on-one to finalize their topic or discuss any concerns they might have, and dive into my proven systems and techniques.
